Rodrigo Carcamo-Diaz

Economic Affairs Officer

Rodrigo Cárcamo-Díaz is Economic Affairs officer at the Commodities Branch of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in Geneva, Switzerland, where he carries out research and projects on commodities and economic development. He has authored different publications on this topic, such as the recent study “Commodity Dependence: A Twenty-Year Perspective”, published by UNCTAD in May 2019. He is currently implementing the project “Integrating Land-locked Commodity-Dependent Developing Countries into Regional and Global Value Chains” in Lao PDR, focusing on the maize downstream value chain.  

During his 17 years of work experience with development, he has also worked for several years at the United Nations ECLAC in Santiago, Chile, where he was country economist for different Latin American countries, and carried out research on macroeconomic cooperation among commodity producing countries and several other development-related topics. He has worked too in different development projects and published a book, several articles, working papers, book chapters and contributed to different UN and other institutions' publications. 

Previous to his work on development at the United Nations, he worked as a competition policy economic consultant in the United Kingdom. 

He holds an MPhil in Economics from the University of Oxford, and a Diploma in Statistics with mention in Statistical Methods from the Universidad Católica de Chile.
