Charlie Carey has served as a member of the board of directors of The Chicago Mercantile Exchange, (CME), since July 2007, and previously as CME Vice Chairman in connection with the merger with The Chicago Board of Trade, (CBOT). Today, CME Group is the largest and most diverse exchange in the world, with a market capitalization of approximately $30 billion.Carey was first elected as chairman of the CBOT in 2003. He was a full-member director of the exchange from 1996-1999. He was first elected to the CBOT Board of Directors in 1990.As chairman of the CBOT, Carey oversaw its demutualization and stock market listing and spearheaded the transformation of CBOT, a member-run institution since 1848, into a for-profit, NYSE-listed public company in 2005.He was instrumental in negotiating the merger of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and Chicago Board of Trade, first announced in October 2006. Mr. Carey is a principal in the firms of Henning and Carey Trading Company and HC Technologies LLC, a CME clearing firm. He has been a member of the Chicago Board of Trade since 1978 and was a member of the Mid-America Commodity Exchange from 1976 to 1978. He also serves on the board of BM&FBOVESPA, the largest exchange company in Latin America.Mr. Carey also currently serves as the chairman of the Commodity Markets Council, a North American trade association whose membership brings together commodity futures exchanges and boards of trade with their industry counterparts.
