Macro reports: South America. August 2016

by AgFlow

AgFlow is making its third release of South American exports from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay vessels that sailed between January and June 2016. This is the first "Macro Report” which has been built compiling data from Alphamar and NABSA.

One set of reports for maize, soybeans, soymeal and soyoil are standard export reports by month to destinations categorized by geographic areas. AgFlow has benched-marked the exports against customs data and other shipping line-ups to determine that coverage is statistically good to very good.

Soybeans

Brazilian exports of soybeans for the first half of 2016 are running at 40.4 mln tons vs only 32.4 mln for the same time period one year ago.

The lower than average Argentine soybean production has started to impact January -June exports which are at 8.6 mln tons vs 9.2 mln tons last year.

In total, South American soybean exports for the first half of 2016 are running 4.4 mln tons more than last year at a total of 49.1 mln tons. Of the total, 36.2 mln tons, or 65%, were destined to China - up 1.5 mln tons from last year.

Soymeal

The change in the Argentine presidency in December was followed by an easing of export taxes which encouraged the Argentine crushers to increase export supply.

Argentine/ Paraguayan exports, at 16.5 mln tons first half of 2016, are up almost 4 mln tons in 2015 for the same period.

Total South American soymeal xports 24.1 mln tons for the first six months of 2016 compared to 19.8 mln tons one year ago.

Maize

South American maize exports are 19.3 mln tons January - June 2016 compared to 12.4 last year.

Estimated Arrivals reports - South America

The second set of reports is “Estimated Arrivals” by destination broken down into first half and second half of each month.

These reports have been created by applying a matrix of sailing days from South American ports to major ports of importing countries. The objective of this report is to provide an indication of the magnitudes of tonnage by arrival / import periods.
